How to Visit Grand Teton National Park in One Day

Sometimes all you have is a day! When visiting Jackson Hole, it’s easy to visit Grand Teton National Park in one day. With its proximity to town, many visitors can easily plan a day trip to this popular destination. Discover how you can spend one day at Grand Teton National Park with our guide below.

Scenic drive

One of the best ways to get to know almost any place is with a scenic drive. Inside the park, there is a 42-mile route along Teton Park Road. This drive connects the base of the Teton Range between Moose and Jackson Lake Junction. Plenty of turnouts are featured along the way where you can get out and take photographs, enjoy a picnic lunch, and take in the majestic scenery.

Experience Jenny Lake

Along your scenic drive, you will pass by Jenny Lake. Resting at the base of Cascade Canyon with views of Teewinot Mountain and Mount St. John all within view, Jenny Lake is one of the most scenic spots inside the park. There are several popular trails that leave from Jenny Lake. Hikers can either take the lake loop, visit Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. These hikes are easily accessible and can be done even if Grand Teton National Park in one day is your only option.

Or if hiking isn’t your thing, hop aboard the scenic cruise around Jenny Lake. A roughly one-hour boat ride, visitors will learn about the history and geology of the area, plus the flora and fauna found around the lake.

Lunch at the lodge

After your hike, refuel with lunch at either the Jenny Lake Lodge or at the Jackson Lake Lodge. Roughly 15 miles north from Jenny Lake is Jackson Lake. Here, the Jackson Lake Lodge serves up elk chili and buffalo burgers at the Pioneer Grill.

Visit Colter Bay Village

Continue north to Colter Bay Village where you can rent kayaks or canoes or sign up for a scenic lake cruise. Similar to the Jenny Lake cruise, this ride will provide an educational background regarding the history and geology of the area. Several hikes leave from Colter Bay Village including Hermitage Point Trail and the Lakeshore Trail.
