Jackson Town Square

George Washington Memorial Park, affectionately known as the “Town Square,” is the heart of our mountain community. Enter the grassy space through large arches made from antlers that nearby elk shed. During the holidays, sparkling lights and festive décor adorn the arches. Explore the area surrounding the epicenter. Outside of the arches, lively shops, eateries, and art galleries line the park. Spend the day enjoying Jackson’s city center.

Jackson Hole’s Elk Antler Arches

Jackson is known for its significant elk presence. In 1934 residents started gathering antlers that had been shed from the large beasts that call the region home. A couple of decades later in 1953 they erected the first of four huge arch structures to serve as the entrance to the town square. In subsequent years three more arches were built for the additional park entry points. Don’t leave before getting your picture in front of the unique Jackson Hole landmark.

National Elk Refuge

In 1912 the National Elk Refuge was established to provide winter refuge for the elk population. With its grassy meadows and marshes nestled in rolling hills and mountains, the wildlife refuge is a critical habitat for not only elk but several other species, including bison, swans, eagles, and more. Head out with your binoculars and visit this historic landmark in Jackson Hole to see the wildlife live.

In spring, it’s one of the first places where the snow melts and reveals incredible views of the snowcapped mountains.
