Best Photo Spots in Jackson Hole in the Winter

Jackson Hole and its surrounding areas may quite easily be one of the most photographed places in the country. The dramatic Teton Mountain Range, historic downtown, and the beautiful Jackson Valley lay the groundwork for some of the most impressive landscapes around. And in the winter, the scenery is particularly spectacular. It’s no wonder that both amateur and professional photographers spend a lot of time snapping photos during their visit. So, grab your camera and discover the best photo spots in Jackson Hole in the winter for memories that will last a lifetime.

National Elk Refuge

Discover hundreds of elk and other local wildlife at the National Elk Refuge. During the winter months, the elk retreat from higher elevations and make their home for the season at the refuge. There isn’t anything more representative of Jackson Hole than a winter wonderland with snow-covered mountain peaks and herds of elk resting against the landscape. Hop on a sleigh ride where you will be able to view the elk up close (within a safe distance, of course) for some great photos!

Town Square – Antler Arch

Visit the Town Square during the holiday season in Jackson Hole to view the famous antler arch. Every year, the entrance to Town Square is adorned with hundreds of elk antlers wrapped in white Christmas lights. It is truly one of the more unique displays in town.

John Moulton Barn

Located within the Mormon Row Historic District (within the Grand Teton National Park), the John Moulton Barn is an iconic landmark near Jackson Hole. The historic barn and homestead were built in the early 1900s and still stand today as a reminder of the Old West days that Jackson Hole works hard to preserve. The barn captured with the Teton mountain range in the background has become an iconic symbol of Jackson Hole.

Snake River Overlook

Made famous by photographer Ansel Adams and his photograph of this scenic landscape, the Snake River Overlook is one of the most popular photo spots of Jackson Hole in the winter. The overlook is easily accessed via the roadside overlook on the main stretch of the highway just north of Moose.

Top of Teton Pass

For the quintessential photo of Jackson Hole in the winter, head to the top of Teton Pass. There, visitors will be met with the classic welcome sign to Jackson Hole. The sign reads, “Howdy stranger, yonder is Jackson Hole – the last of the Old West.” With the snowy peaks in the background and the rustic wood sign, this is one photo op you don’t want to miss! And it makes for a great selfie opportunity.
