With summer upon us, we’re all looking forward to getting outdoors and enjoying the sunshine and welcomed warmth. Jackson Hole is a playground of outdoor activities, including fishing. For a moment of solitude or the perfect father-son outing, fishing in Jackson Hole is a favorite pastime for locals and visitors alike. The Snake River and the area national parks offer some of the best places to fish in Jackson Hole.
Yellowstone National Park fishing
Fly fishing is in abundance at Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone River, Lamar, and Firehole Rivers are great places to cast your line. Yellowstone Lake, Trout Lake, and Grebe Lake are also other good spots to fish. The park is home to seven different species including, brook, rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout, plus mountain whitefish and grayling.
*Note: the first Friday of May is traditionally the opening day of the East Gate into Yellowstone National Park, signaling the sign of summer. The park will begin its first phase of reopening on May 18th. Be sure to check their website for the most current closings and openings when planning your trip.
Grand Teton National Park
Jenny Lake is the most popular spot for fishing inside the park. The entire Snake River runs through the entirety of the park, offering anglers ample opportunity to catch some Cutthroat Trout and Lake Trout. Jackson Lake Dam and Cottonwood Creek are also other good spots for fishing inside the park.

Near Jackson Hole
You don’t have to travel far for the best places to fish in Jackson Hole. The Snake River is a prime spot for those staying in town and who don’t want a lot of drive time. Flat Creek, which runs through the main part of town, Buffalo Creek, and Green River are also good spots to cast in a line.
